Virginia House of Delegates District 68
Dr. Dawn Adams is a nurse practitioner and serving her first term in the Virginia House of Delegates representing District 68 (Chesterfield County, Henrico County, and Richmond City).
For more than 24 years, she has lived and worked in Richmond as a registered nurse, nurse practitioner, access to care researcher, and health advocate. She is the former Director for the Office of Integrated Health for the Commonwealth of Virginia’s Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Services (DBHDS) and adjunct professor at ODU teaching health policy in the nursing doctorate program. She is currently the CEO of Integrated Health Consulting, providing direct care and programmatic consultation services.
She grew up in a home dedicated to public service. At a young age, she learned the importance of community with her mother working as a registered nurse and her father serving as a Search & Rescue Pilot in the U.S. Coast Guard as well as giving back in service to their local community. At age 17, she left for college, and has since received educational degrees from four Virginia public universities.
As a first year Delegate, she submitted legislation that looked to improve the lives of all Virginians, focusing on health care, education, protecting seniors, fair voting practices, and ensuring a clean environment. Her priorities for the next session remain the same as they have been voiced as primary concerns of her constituents.
Throughout her career, she has worked to build relationships with all people irrespective of their backgrounds. She is deeply concerned with the partisan rhetoric that has replaced healthy public discourse. She believes that all people inherently want the same things: well-being, safety, love, inclusion, job security, healthy food, and to be happy. That is why she stresses the importance of finding common ground from which to start conversations.
She is honored to have earned the trust of the constituents in the 68th District to take the lessons she’s learned as a nurse practitioner, administrator, educator, and leader to represent her community in the Virginia House of Delegates.
EveryDistrict endorsed Delegate Adams in 2017 and we’re proud to be supporting her re-election campaign in 2019.
